Tapered roller bearings are particularly suitable for withstanding combined forces (radial & axial) thanks to their raceways with a tapered shape in the outer and inner rings.
Single-row tapered roller bearings are not self-retaining. This means that the inner ring with roller set (cone) can be fitted apart from the outer ring (cup).
Frequently, a second tapered roller bearing is "placed" next to the first. The advantage of this type of bearing is mostly that it can now be used towithstand axial loads in both directions.
Please note that imperial tapered roller bearings are mostly available in individual parts (i.e. cone or cup separate)!

Distinguishing features:

• bearing has an inner ring with an inclined-located roller set (often also known as "tilted roller bearings")
• bearing is not self-retaining - the outer ring comes apart from the rest of the bearing when dismantled
• the bearing rolling elements are tapered rollers (please do not confuse with cylinder rollers or spherical rollers)
